Hard-softwoods that are generally resilient, yet not too dense are an excellent choice for an authentic sauna. The higher the density, the hotter it would feel when sitting on the benches. This is why low density timber types like Western Red Cedar are far more preferable than hardwoods like Oak, Ash and Beech. Sitting on these would feel as hot as steel in a sauna!
Finnmark offer the following comprehensive range of sauna benching timber options:
Thermo Spruce and Thermo Pine
Aspen

Finnmark's Sauna wood bench profiles and sizes
SHP profile is the standard timber profile for sauna bench boards. This is generally a rectangular profile with radiused corners, usually R2 or R3 (2mm or 3mm radiuses on each corner). As standard, we warehouse:
SHP Profile Bench Boards
Unedged Planks
The thickness of the bench boards is important to prevent warping and twisting over time. Finnmark generally only work with 28mm thick as a standard for the most resilient sauna benching timber, in all but Western Red Cedar which is 26mm thick. We warehouse the following sauna bench board widths as standard:
28mm wide bench boards
42mm wide bench boards
65mm wide bench boards
The above are ideal for sauna bench skirts and bodyform bench systems.
90mm wide bench boards
120mm wide bench boards
140mm wide bench boards
