Luxury Outdoor Saunas

Our luxury outdoor saunas come in various sizes and capacities, providing flexible space options for solo relaxation or social sauna sessions with family and friends.

Small & Compact Outdoor Saunas (2-4)

Perfect for those who crave a quiet, intimate sauna experience. These compact garden saunas are well-suited for couples or individuals looking to unwind in privacy. The smaller volume allows for faster heating, energy efficiency, and a cosy, cocoon-like atmosphere that enhances relaxation and personal time with nature.

Medium Outdoor Saunas (4-6)

Ideal for family use or relaxed group sessions with friends, medium outdoor saunas offer the best of both worlds. Spacious enough for comfortable seating, yet still efficient to heat, these models support regular wellness routines, encourage connection, and make each sauna session a social, rejuvenating ritual.

Large Outdoor Saunas (6+)

Designed for those who want to recreate the full spa experience at home. They offer ample space for larger groups. Guests can enjoy the heat, steam, and associated health benefits together, all while surrounded by the natural beauty of your outdoor space.

 Outdoor Sauna FAQ's

Does a garden sauna need electricity?

Not necessarily, it really comes down to your preference. If you choose an electric sauna heater, then your outdoor sauna will require a suitable power supply. Most UK homes have a single-phase electrical supply, which is suitable for the majority of outdoor saunas, although some larger models may require a three-phase connection. Electric heaters are a popular choice as they offer precise temperature control, quick heat-up times, and convenient operation via remote Wi-Fi control or manual control panels.

If you'd prefer an outdoor sauna without electricity, a wood-burning heater is a great alternative. Wood-fired saunas can operate completely off-grid, making them ideal for gardens where mains power isn't available. They also provide the traditional sauna experience, with the natural crackle and warmth of a real fire. However, if you live in a Smoke Control Area, restrictions may apply, so please check before choosing a wood-burning heater.

Ultimately, whether an outdoor sauna needs electricity typically depends on the type of heater you choose. If you're unsure which option is best for your space, our sauna specialists are on hand to help; simply get in touch for free expert advice.

Can outdoor saunas be used in the winter?

Absolutely, outdoor saunas are designed to be used all year round, including during the coldest winter months. Winter is one of the most popular times to enjoy a sauna session, as the contrast between the crisp outdoor air and the enveloping heat of your sauna enhances both the wellness benefits and the overall experience.

Thanks to Finnmark's UK-ready outdoor sauna designs, efficient sauna heaters, and carefully selected sauna wood, every model is designed to deliver consistent warmth and comfort, even in colder weather. Whether you choose a traditional barrel sauna or a modern outdoor sauna, each is built to withstand the elements, providing reliable performance and exceptional relaxation.

How often should you use an outdoor sauna to experience the most wellness benefits?

To enjoy the full wellness benefits of your outdoor sauna, consistency is key. Most experts recommend using a sauna based on your comfort and experience level. Always listen to your body and use the sauna based on your abilities and preferences.

It's advised to have a cool-down period outdoors or a refreshing shower while using the sauna, and this cycle can be repeated as many times as you require. However, more isn't always better. Overuse, especially for beginners, can lead to dehydration or fatigue, so it's essential to listen to your body and ease into a rhythm that feels sustainable.

Incorporating sauna use into your weekly routine, especially in the peaceful setting of your garden or outdoor retreat, has never been easier with Finnmark's range of luxury outdoor saunas for sale.

Do you need a permit for an outdoor sauna in the UK?

Typically, outdoor saunas do not require planning permission in the UK, as they often fall within permitted development rights. This generally applies where the sauna is located within your outdoor space, does not exceed 2.5 metres in height, and occupies no more than 50% of the available outdoor area.

However, we recommend checking with your local planning authority if your property is listed, located within a conservation area, or subject to any restrictive covenants or planning constraints. All Finnmark outdoor saunas for sale are designed to comply with standard permitted development criteria.

How much space do I need for an outdoor sauna?

Space requirements for our outdoor saunas vary depending on the specific model you choose. For example, our smallest compact outdoor sauna, the Cube Sauna, requires just 145 cm x 133 cm of ground space, while our smallest Barrel Sauna is approximately 150 cm in length.

Large outdoor sauna models will naturally require more room, with some designs needing up to around 3 metres in length. In addition to the footprint of the sauna itself, it's important to allow extra clearance for comfortable access, door swing, and adequate airflow. We typically recommend a minimum of 30 to 50 cm of additional space around the structure where possible.

What maintenance do outdoor garden saunas require?

Outdoor garden saunas benefit from regular maintenance to keep them performing well and looking their best. After each use, it's good practice to wipe down the interior benches and allow the sauna to ventilate properly so any remaining moisture can escape. A more thorough clean every 1 to 2 weeks, using suitable sauna-safe cleaning products, will help maintain hygiene and freshness. Using towels or seat covers during sessions can also help protect the seating surfaces.

All Finnmark saunas are constructed using thermally modified timber, which is naturally resistant to moisture and decay, meaning it requires far less upkeep than conventional timber. For external surfaces, especially in more exposed settings, we recommend applying a quality wood treatment once a year to preserve the finish and longevity of the structure.

The exact maintenance schedule may vary depending on your environment, properties in coastal or particularly harsh weather conditions may require more frequent care.

Are outdoor saunas worth it?

For most of our customers, yes. A well-built outdoor home sauna becomes a genuine part of the weekly routine, with real benefits for recovery, sleep and cardiovascular health. Built with thermally modified timber and a quality sauna heater, a Finnmark luxury outdoor sauna is an investment that performs reliably for decades.

Can you build your own outdoor sauna?

Yes and we actively support customers who choose to. Our Self-Build Guide covers the full process, and our sauna specialists offer free consultations to plan your project and assemble a tailored materials list. If a full self-build feels like too much, our barrel and cube outdoor saunas arrive flat-packed and can typically be assembled over a weekend.

Can an outdoor sauna be used indoors?

Sometimes an outdoor sauna can be used indoors, but the two configurations are not interchangeable. Our Cube Sauna is available in dedicated indoor and outdoor versions, as the outdoor build includes weatherproofing elements the indoor version does not require. If you are considering an outdoor model for a garage or garden room, we recommend speaking to one of our specialists first to confirm the model is suitable for the space and to advise on ventilation and clearances.
