A staple in Nordic and Scandinavian sauna construction, spruce is known for its natural beauty, durability, and affordability. Its pale colour with characteristic streaks enhances the feeling of space, making it an excellent choice for home saunas. The tight grain and low sap content of Finnmark’s Grade AB spruce ensure a cleaner, more uniform finish, minimising imperfections.
While spruce sauna cladding is durable, it does absorb heat more than alternatives like aspen or alder.
To enhance longevity and performance, we recommend treating the wood with sauna paraffin oil and maintaining a regular cleaning routine.
Why Choose Spruce for Your Sauna?
- Classic Aesthetic – Pale, streaked wood creates a light, traditional sauna interior.
- Hard-Wearing – High-density wood withstands heat and humidity over time.
- Sustainably Sourced – Responsibly harvested from Finland & the Baltics.
- Grade AB Quality – Fewer defects, lower sap content (5% or less), and a more refined finish.
- Cost-Effective – A traditional sauna wood offering excellent value without compromising on quality.
Spruce contains natural knots that may release resin under heat, so we do not recommend it for sauna benches. Instead, it is best used for sauna cladding, panelling, and bench framing.
