In fact, the difference between our more whitish aspen sauna materials and our darker chocolatey-brown hue thermo aspen timber lies in its treatment process using heat and steam. By subjecting aspen to a thermal process (heat treating soft timber options), it transfers our carefully selected and certified timber into an even tougher and naturally rot resistant sauna wood. The intense heat deeply dries the aspen to its core as moisture and resin is being drawn out. It means the finished product does not react to humidity changes as prominently as untreated aspen. This also means that the risk of shrinkage, swelling and cracking is reduced further.
