The makkaraputki is a Finnish soapstone tube that lets you cook a sausage on the sauna stones while you bathe. Soapstone is renowned for its high heat capacity, so the sausage cooks gently and evenly: crisp on the outside and juicy in the middle. Simply set the tube on the stones, lift it off with an oven mitt when the sausage is ready, and use the slit along the side to ease it out with a fork. Each cooker is carved from 100% authentic Finnish soapstone in Tuupovaara, north-eastern Finland, by Hukka Design Oy, and it should never sit in direct contact with an electric heating element.

Using the cooker
