Kärävä is a Finnish, family-owned company founded in 1988. Since then, the dedicated team has manufactured high-quality wood products using materials purchased directly from nearby sawmills. Kärävä has long industry expertise and a deep passion for high-quality, sustainable wood products. They offer wood solutions for indoor and outdoor use with natural and thermally modified profiles.

About Kärävä Wood Products:

All of Kärävä’s products are manufactured by hand from FSC-certified, high-quality wood. The production happens at Kärävä’s own factory and carpentry shop in Pirkkala, Finland. The company wants to ensure that customers are provided with high-quality wood with an individual touch. Kärävä offers a variety of wood products from different species in their natural form, as well as heat treated.

What Kärävä offers:

Kärävä provides timber products that are ideal for sauna construction and DIY projects. They have a selection of sauna wood bench boards, sauna cladding panels and sauna mouldings to fit all kinds of design tastes and finishes. Kärävä’s thermally modified wood is extremely popular in saunas. As a result of the chemical-free heat treatment process, the wood obtains increased resistance to fluctuating temperature changes and humidity levels. Heat treated timber products are ideal for the more demanding conditions prominent in saunas and outdoor spaces.

Thermowood

Thermal modification, or heat treatment, increases the durability of natural wood and makes it more resistant to decay. The darker colouration of thermally modified wood gives it an attractive hardwood appearance.

Kärävä has long experience in thermal modification of timber. The production technique they apply is patented and as a member of the International ThermoWood Association, Kärävä is authorized to use the ThermoWood trademark. The ThermoWood trademark signifies that wood products are manufactured by applying a unique, natural process developed in Finland.

In addition to the patented production technique, the high-quality of Kärävä’s timber products is built on the company having full control of the production chain. The wood selected for thermal modification is attained from trusted partners and brought to manufacturing at their own heat treatment facilities in Mänttä-Vilppula, Finland.
