Sauna Venting

Correct sauna ventilation is considered one of the most integral aspects of any sauna build. Air quality is crucial because a constant source of fresh air ensures the hot air is well circulated and it removes used air from the sauna before it becomes stagnant. It also ensures any volatile or organic compounds entering the sauna air are dispelled swiftly. Without ventilation, the sauna air quickly becomes stale and potentially unhygienic and the sauna structure itself can quickly deteriorate.

Every sauna specialist has a slightly different opinion on what the optimum ventilation set up is. It depends on a number of factors such as type and size of the heater, the sauna layout, bench height, and whether there's an air gap under the door. A simple ventilation set up consists of an air source under the heater which could be under the sauna door and another under the sauna bench to help bring the heat down. Finally, one in the ceiling acts as a heat dump.
