Description
The STS3 Respect profile is a modern, sustainably crafted alder cladding for sauna walls and ceilings, distinguished by its narrow square grooves and lamellar construction. Building each board in layers improves stability, extends the life of the raw material and allows a wider range of dimensions than traditional manufacturing, with production by-products used for the base of the board so nothing is wasted. Each board is 15 mm thick and 140 mm wide, with an effective width of 130 mm once fitted, and packs contain six boards in a choice of 2100 mm or 2400 mm lengths. Alder is a popular timber for traditional saunas, light brown with warm pink undertones, and it stays comfortable to the touch in high heat while resisting twisting and warping. The profile integrates cleanly with our other cladding profiles, and we recommend a light treatment with paraffin oil, which slightly deepens the colour of the wood.

Timber
Alder is a popular choice in traditional saunas thanks to its natural qualities and low risk of twisting and warping. It has a light brown colour with warm pink undertones, and a subtle scent that resembles freshly cut hay, which many find pleasant in the sauna. Alder does not overheat and has water-repellent properties, so it performs well in hot and humid environments. As a natural product, the timber shows some colour variation between packs and batches.
Profile
STS3 Respect is a lamellar profile with distinctive narrow square grooves. The layered construction offers enhanced stability, significantly extends the lifespan of the raw material and allows a more flexible range of dimensions than traditional manufacturing techniques, with production by-products used for the base of the board. The profile integrates seamlessly with our other cladding profiles for contrast within a scheme, and the boards suit DIY projects as well as full sauna builds.
Quality & Wastage
Our alder sauna timber is A-grade: durable, knot free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a wastage allowance of 15%, which also covers the small risk of damage in transit. General sauna wood grading standards apply to this timber. Contact us if you are unsure how much you need for your sauna build.
Installation & Care
The boards are straightforward to fit and well suited to a DIY sauna build. An Installation and Maintenance Guide is available under the Downloadable Files tab on this page. We recommend treating the wood with paraffin oil, which slightly deepens its colour. Lifestyle images are representational only; the finished look will vary with the width and placement of the cladding.
Ordering & Delivery
Timber orders are shipped on a palletised service due to their size, and may require a kerbside drop. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout and vary between UK Mainland, Highland and Island postcodes. We usually ship lengths of up to 2400 mm; longer lengths cost significantly more to send. If we stock a longer board than you need, our cutting service can cut it to your required length for a small fee, with the off-cut added to the pallet. For longer lengths or the cutting service, contact our team on +44 (0) 20 8050 2895 or support@finnmarksauna.com.
