Using fragrances in a steam room

Check your steam room's user manual first: add fragrance to the outlet or a dosing system, never directly into the steam generator, and follow any model-specific guidance. If your steam generator has a dedicated fragrance well or inlet, follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the type and amount to use. Essential oils are highly concentrated and should not be applied undiluted; if there is no designated compartment, mix a few drops with water before adding it to the generator or water reservoir so the fragrance disperses evenly without damaging the equipment.

Never apply oils directly to walls, benches or other surfaces, as they may stain or damage them. Use only steam-safe fragrances; some oils, such as citrus-based ones, can be corrosive in high-heat environments, so choose steam-distilled oils designed for humid conditions. Start with a small amount (typically 3–5 drops) and adjust as needed, since overpowering fragrance can cause discomfort. If your steam room has no dedicated reservoir, a few drops of diluted oil on a damp washcloth or in a small bowl of water inside the steam room will let the scent diffuse naturally. Clean your steam generator and fragrance reservoir regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions to prevent residue build-up.
