How to Use Steam Fragrances in Your Steam Room

Check Your Steam Room Manual –
Add to either the outlet or into a dosing system, never directly into the steam generator. Check your steam room’s user manual. Some models have specific compartments or guidelines for using essential oils or aromatic additives.

Use a Designated Fragrance Reservoir (If Available) –
Many modern steam generators include a dedicated fragrance well or inlet. If your steam room has this feature, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for the correct type and amount of fragrance to use.

Dilute the Fragrance Properly –
Essential oils are highly concentrated and should not be applied undiluted. If your steam room does not have a designated fragrance compartment, mix a few drops of your chosen essential oil with water before adding it to the steam generator or water reservoir. This helps disperse the fragrance evenly and prevents damage to the equipment.

Avoid Direct Application to Surfaces –
Never apply essential oils directly to the walls, benches, or other surfaces of the steam room, as they may cause staining or damage.

Use Steam-Safe Fragrances –
Ensure that the essential oils or fragrance blends you use are safe for steam rooms. Some oils, such as citrus-based ones, can be corrosive in high-heat environments. Opt for steam-distilled oils designed for use in humid conditions.

Start with a Small Amount –
Begin with just a few drops (typically 3–5 drops) and adjust as needed. Overpowering fragrances can be overwhelming and may cause discomfort.

Distribute Fragrance Evenly –
If your steam room does not have a dedicated reservoir, you can place a few drops of diluted essential oil onto a damp washcloth or small bowl of water inside the steam room to allow the scent to diffuse naturally.

Clean Regularly –
To prevent residue buildup, clean your steam generator and fragrance reservoir (if applicable) regularly according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
