Stelon Oy's specialist paraffin oil protects the timber inside a sauna, forming a natural barrier that stops moisture from damaging the wood fibres and leaving tide marks on the benches. Free of toxins, fragrance and colour, it suits every sauna wood, including high-end thermo-treated timbers, and helps keep the interior from turning brittle, warped or discoloured over time. It is best applied from new, so the protection is in place before problems can begin. The oil deepens the natural figure of the grain, so test a small, hidden area first to see the finished tone. Applied with a sponge to clean, dry wood and left for around an hour, it covers roughly 8–15 m² per litre, and a 5 litre container is supplied here. Use only a purpose-made paraffin oil in the sauna; regular paraffin is a fire hazard.

Using the treatment
Make sure the sauna is completely dry and clean before you begin. Pour the oil onto a sponge and work it evenly across the timber, then leave it for around an hour to form its protective coating. Because the oil brings out the figure of the wood, test it on an unnoticeable area first so you know how the finished surface will look. The maker also notes that treated timber is intended to be less hospitable to bacterial growth.
Safety
Paraffin oil is not the same as regular paraffin. Never treat a sauna with standard paraffin, which is a fire hazard; use only a purpose-made paraffin oil such as this.
