Description
Thermory's SHP bench boards in thermo alder are the quiet backbone of a well-built sauna bench. Heat treatment gives the alder a rich hazel-brown colour and a stable, splinter-free structure that stays comfortable at sauna temperatures. The full 28 mm thickness guards against warping and twisting, and the R3 radiused edges are smooth against the skin. Boards are 90 mm wide and supplied in packs of four, in 2100 mm or 2400 mm lengths, suited to a DIY build or our sauna bench fabrication service.

Timber
Thermo alder has a hazel-brown colour and subtle texture. Like other heat-treated timbers it has a low risk of warping and twisting, and it will not splinter or overheat at sauna temperatures. See the full Thermo Alder Sauna Wood range.
SHP profile
SHP is the standard profile for sauna bench boards: a rectangular section with radiused corners, usually R2, R3 or R4 (a 2, 3 or 4 mm radius on each edge). The 28 mm thickness is important to prevent warping and twisting over time. More timbers in this profile: SHP Sauna Bench Board Collection.
Quality & Wastage
A-grade timber: durable, knot free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a 15% wastage allowance for these bench boards, which also covers the risk of damage in transit. General sauna wood grading standards apply; the grading rules are in the Downloads section on this page. As a natural product, timber shows some colour variation between packs and batches.
