Description
This STS4 thermo alder cladding dresses the walls and ceiling of a sauna in slim, angular grooves, with the 4 mm gap between boards that gives the profile its name. The result is a strong, symmetrical surface that suits contemporary saunas, and it combines readily with other board profiles when a more individual finish is wanted. Thermo alder carries a hazel-brown colour and a subtle texture, with a low risk of warping and twisting; it will not splinter or overheat at sauna temperatures. Please note this particular timber may present a slightly darker tone, and colour can vary considerably between boards, batches and seasons; it is priced to reflect that variation. Each pack contains six boards, 15 mm thick and 90 mm wide with an 80 mm effective width, in a choice of 2100 mm and 2400 mm lengths.

Timber
Thermo alder has a hazel-brown colour and a subtle texture favoured by many. Like other heat-treated timbers it has a low risk of warping and twisting, and it will not splinter or overheat at sauna temperatures.
Profile
The STS4 profile takes its name from the 4 mm gap between boards. Its slim, angular grooves create a symmetrical, strong aesthetic, which makes it a popular choice in modern and contemporary saunas. It can be used alongside other wood profiles to create a unique interior.
Quality & Wastage
This thermo alder is A-grade: durable, knot-free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a 15% wastage allowance, which also covers the small risk of damage in transit; our interactive Cladding Calculator can help estimate quantities. General sauna wood grading standards apply.
Timber is a natural product and no two pieces are exactly alike. Colour, grain and texture vary between boards, packs, batches, seasons and suppliers, in some cases considerably along a single board; this particular timber may present a slightly darker tone. To keep an appearance consistent, avoid mixing timber from different sources wherever possible. If a close colour match is essential, we strongly recommend bringing a sample and collecting the material in person.
Installation & Care
The cladding is well suited to DIY installation.
Ordering & Delivery
Timber orders travel on a palletised shipping service owing to their size, and may require a kerbside drop or handballing off the vehicle. Costs are calculated at checkout by order size and quantity, and differ between UK Mainland, Highland and Island postcodes. We normally ship lengths up to 2400 mm; beyond that, shipping costs rise significantly. If we stock a longer length than you need, our cutting service can cut a full-length board down for a small fee, with the off-cut added to the pallet. For longer lengths, the cutting service, or advice on sizes and quantities, call +44 (0) 20 8050 2895 or email support@finnmarksauna.com.
