Description
Thermory's SHP bench boards are the standard choice for sauna seating: a rectangular profile with radiused corners that is stable and comfortable in equal measure. These thermo aspen boards are 28 mm thick and 120 mm wide with an R3 edge, a 3 mm radius on each corner that smooths the board edge; the 28 mm thickness helps prevent warping and twisting over time. The timber itself is heat-treated aspen, honey-brown in colour with a straight, knot-free grain and a pleasant, toasted scent. Boards come four to a pack in 2100 mm and 2400 mm lengths, well suited to DIY benching; for a fully bespoke system, our Bench Fabrication Service builds to order.

Timber
Thermo aspen is created by heat-treating soft timber. The treatment reduces the wood's moisture content, giving it a tough, rot-resistant structure that releases no resin in the heat and humidity of a sauna. It has a honey-brown colouration, a pleasant, toasted scent and a straight, knot-free grain, which makes it an easy timber to keep looking its best.
Profile
SHP is the standard profile for sauna bench boards: rectangular with radiused corners, usually R2, R3 or R4 (a 2 mm, 3 mm or 4 mm radius on each corner). The radius value describes the smoothness of the board edge; these boards are R3. The 28 mm thickness is important in preventing warping and twisting over time.
Quality & Wastage
This thermo aspen is A-grade: durable, knot-free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a 15% wastage allowance, which also covers the small risk of damage in transit; our interactive Bench Board Calculator can help estimate quantities. As a natural product, timber shows some colour variation between packs and batches, and general sauna wood grading standards apply.

Timber orders travel on a palletised shipping service owing to their size, and may require a kerbside drop or handballing off the vehicle. We normally ship lengths up to 2400 mm; beyond that, shipping costs rise significantly. If we stock a longer length than you need, our cutting service can cut a full-length board down for a small fee, with the off-cut added to the pallet.
